Today National Technical University "Kharkov Polytechnic Institute" (NTU "KhPI") is the biggest educational institution of Eastern Ukraine and the biggest university of Kharkiv. The University’s students number over 22,000. The NTU "KhPI" has been accredited as a university of the highest 4th level. It trains full-time students for 73 qualifications and offers 40 qualifications for correspondence students.
The University has 21 full-time departments, a department of long-distance learning, a preparation department, a training centre for foreign citizens, an inter-branch institute for professional development and 3 scientific research and design institutes.
The NTU “KhPI” comprises the Institute of Tank Troops named after Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and a machine-building vocational school. The University’s teaching staff numbers about 1,300 people, of whom there are 160 Doctors of Philosophy and professors, 760 associate professors and candidates of sciences.
In 2007 the University received the prize of Vietnamese President Nguyen Chi Thanh.
